NYCTA Subway Station

Project Name: NYCTA Subway Station

Location: New York City, NY

Project Completion: 2018

Project Overview

As part of New York City Transit’s 2018 station modernization effort, a series of subway stations across the city were upgraded to improve safety, durability, and the overall rider experience. The remodels focused on refreshing aging platforms and circulation areas with new finishes, lighting, signage, wayfinding, and passenger information technology, while also addressing accessibility, visibility, and long-term maintenance needs. These improvements helped transform heavily used stations into brighter, more intuitive public spaces better suited to the demands of daily urban transit.

ASI’s Contribution

ASI Architectural provided 15,600 square feet of Western Red Cedar linear wood ceiling planks to the NYCTA subway station remodels, bringing warmth and visual continuity to heavily used public transit spaces. Installed across station ceilings and circulation areas, the system adds natural texture while supporting a durable, welcoming finish suited to the demands of daily ridership. The result is a cohesive wood ceiling expression that complements the broader modernization effort and helps create brighter, more inviting station environments.
